Tool of Translation

Science is the tool we use to translate fossils and artifacts into coherent narratives. Technological innovations bring our view of the past into better focus. Lateral thinking allows insights into the past serve as inputs for considerations of the present and future.

Paleontology occupies an important spot in the scientific disciplines that we make use of in reconstructing the past. It is the the interplay of many disciplines, however, that allow us to see the wider picture. We strive for an interdisciplinary approach in regarding the research we undertake so as to better illustrate its pertinence and relevance. Indeed, science should clarify; not mystify.

The scientific program includes general analysis across a multitude of artifacts as well as detailed studies of exceptional discoveries. Data gained from this research serve as proxies for inquiry into phenomena that play out over long periods of time, such as climate change, evolution of species and mechanics of biodiversity. The history of the last 50,000 years – with its fluctuating climate, mass extinctions and the rise of human civilizations – is an ideal place to look for clues.
