Dr. Tikhonov is the Deputy Director of the Zoological Institute in St. Petersburg and the Scientific Secretary of the “Mammoth Committee” of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Also a « man of the field » who has explored the northern latitudes ever since having completed his education, he was at the center of the discovery of baby mammoth Masha on the Yamal peninsula in October 1988.
